Description:

Under the direction of the Coordinator of Learning + Engagement (L+E), the K-12 Tour Guide will help implement tours and activities for K-12 students within the Iron County and surrounding school districts.

Duties and Responsibilities Spring Break Out Kits (spring)

  • Alongside the L&E team, develop 2-3 art activities for take-home art kits that include detailed instructions and examples
  • Assist in creating materials list and communicate all purchasing needs to the Coordinator of L+E
  • Assist in the coordination of art kit assembly and communicating additional staffing needs for assembly to Coordinator of L+E

K-12 Tours (fall-spring)

  • Review lesson plans
  • Review the tour script pertaining to current exhibitions as well as comprehending all language and making content adjustments for secondary school audiences
  • Identify relevant books or integrated lesson topics. Collaborate with the Coordinator of L+E on appropriate topics per each exhibition.
  • Assemble activity materials and instructions for L+E Tour Guides
  • Assist in training Volunteer Tour Guides
  • Facilitate hands-on activity
  • Comprehend the prepared instructions and make examples of hands-on activities related to the tour content, to be completed in the SUMA Classroom in a 30-minute time frame
  • Communicate any purchasing needs to the Coordinator of L+E
  • Oversee post-tour survey by tour attendees, specifically teachers and aides
  • Meet with Coordinator of L+E to review feedback following each exhibit, sooner if necessary
  • As needed, lead Southern Utah University school tours with support from L+E team members and the Coordinator of L+E

Partnered Events (as needed)

  • Assist in facilitating activities for partnered events as they unfold (past examples: OSU Children’s Jubilee, Astronomy Festival, Pumpkin Festival, and SUU’s 125th Anniversary)
  • Assist with creating instructions, examples, and day-of plan
  • Assist with day-of setup, management, and take down of activity
  • Assist with STEAM nights as needed
  • Support other team members and initiatives as needed

Qualifications:

Welcoming demeanor, dependable, punctual, excellent communication skills, enthusiastic, general knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Google Drive. Must be comfortable public speaking and leading groups of people that range in age from 5 years old to 55+.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience leading tours, ability to instruct K-12 students, assist with creative-making activities, and can communicate effectively.
